If College Coaches Could See Your Future

Most swimmers think college coaches recruit based on what they see today.
Your PBs. Your rankings. Your latest results.... But what if a coach could see the next three years of your swimming journey? Would they recruit you?
Coaches aren't just evaluating where you are today. They're trying to predict where you'll be when you arrive on campus.
They want to know:
Will you keep showing up when progress slows?
Will you continue improving year after year?
How will you respond to setbacks and disappointments?
Will you become a positive teammate and contribute to the team culture?
A coach knows that a 15-year-old swimmer can look very different by the time they're 18. That's why they pay attention to more than just times. They look for signs of potential. The swimmer who is coachable. The swimmer who is consistent. The swimmer who is committed to getting better. The swimmer who embraces challenges instead of avoiding them.
In many cases, the fastest swimmer today isn't the athlete coaches are most excited about. They're often more interested in the swimmer whose best years are still ahead of them.
So instead of asking:
"Are my times good enough right now?"
Try asking:
"If a coach could see the next three years of my journey, would they be excited about what they see?"
Because college coaches aren't just recruiting your current performance. They're investing in your future potential.
